Bishop's Waltham is a vibrant and historic market town set in the glorious Hampshire countryside

“To promote Bishop’s Waltham as a vibrant, social community through organising events

and providing services to residents and organisations.”

 

Set up in 2012 in reaction to various threats to the vitality of the high street, the Town Team and its volunteers have been working tirelessly to ensure that footfall remains high, vacant shops are minimised and that the community really connects with this precious resource.

Members

Members of the Town Team are individuals who are committed and creative.

 

Associate Members (Friends) are individual representatives from other organisations that can support the Town Team through the provision of advice, authority or resources.

The structure of the Town Team is a loose independent organisation.

Our Tasks

1. Develop and organise events to encourage town engagement and community cohesion.

2. Provide services that publicise the town and its community activities.

3. Assist community organisations in developing new ideas or initiating events.

Achievements

We continue to work hard to meet our objectives including:

• Creating and sending out a monthly eNewsletter with useful information on events, promotions and things to do in Bishop’s Waltham

• The development of a Facebook page to keep people-up-to date with events and shop info

• Creating Events such as Children’s Events, Bishop’s Waltham Bites, Yarnbombing, Murder Mysteries and Street Parties 

• Became runner up in the Great British High Street Awards in 2016

• Setting up a QR code trail around Bishop’s Waltham

• Updating the Pocket Guide to Bishop’s Waltham

• Production of a large map board for each of the car parks

• Launched the Bishop’s Waltham Community Volunteers website in 2023 to help increase the number of volunteers working with local organisations.  By providing this resource we aim to encourage local organisations to advertise roles, using a simple platform for local people to browse and apply for those roles, thus supporting the continuation of the many community organisations which provide essential services and support to residents of our town and its neighbouring villages.
