Thu 19th Mar: Free Heartstart Training - Your chance to learn how to save a life!

7:00pm

Training is free and available to any member of the public,

although donations to cover our running costs are welcomed.  Training sessions last between 2 - 2.5 hours and are tailored to the age group and organisation concerned.

The course is delivered as a mixture of practical, theory and video so no previous experience / knowledge is required. At the end of the training, providing you complete the course, you will be presented with a certificate.

Mon 23rd Mar: Hampshire & IOW Wildlife Trust - The Purple Emperor in Hampshire

The Purple Emporer in Hampshire which is evident in and around the Bishops Waltham area - a talk by Ashley Whitlock from Butterfly Conservation. New book - ‘Hampshire & Isle of Wight Butterfly Walks’ available from the website or from Ashley at the talk. http://www.hantsiow-butterflies.org.uk (£6.00 or £7.30 online).

Thu 26th Mar: Charity Fashion Show

6:30pm

Back after a sell out in 2017, Bishops Waltham Rotary Charity Fashion Show in aid of the MS Society, tickets £15 to include a glass of Prosecco and canapés, doors open 6.30pm to view the stalls and Fashion Show commences 7.30pm with Spring and Summer wear by Boutique ME, Luvvit and Labels. Grand Raffle. Tickets available now from Boutique ME, High Street, Bishop’s Waltham.

Tues 7th Apr: BW Aviation Group - Rod Dean – The Mosquito

7:30pm

Following earlier detailed presentations on the Hunter and Meteor Rod turns his attention to the iconic de Haviland Mosquito.   The talk will benefit from Rod’s wide aviation knowledge and flying experience and as usual will have been meticulously researched and well illustrated.  It will cover in detail the concept, construction and development of the aircraft. The Mosquito first flew in November 1940 and almost 8000 were produced.


BWAG meetings are held in St Peter’s Church Hall, Free Street with doors open from 7:30 and a usual admission charge of £2.50.

Sample tasters of what the town's restaurants, pubs and food outlets have to offer. This is a very popular event in the town's calendar with tickets always highly in demand.

Sat 16th May: Plant Sale

7:30am to 12:30pm

This sale is about providing quality plants at low prices which means that the purchaser gets a bargain and the Gardening Club improves its funds.  Plants are a mixture of small plug basket or annual plants bought in and grown on by members. Members also grow flower, vegetable and herb plants from seed and donate plants.  These latter may be houseplants, shrubs, perennials, fruit or anything members have a surplus of that is of good quality and can be sold!

If you like to be involved with the sale, or have any plants to donate, please email. Arrangements can be made to collect and store plants until sale if necessary.

All assistance and donations are very gratefully received.

Sales are also held at most monthly meetings and also at other village events.

Come and see what has been caught in the traps overnight!


Meet 9am at a private home in Shirrell Heath. Bring a moth book if you have one. Booking required and details of venue will be provided.


The garden is flat with hardstanding and no steps and is suitable for wheelchairs that are OK on grass. No dogs.

Tue 9th June: Hampshire & IOW Wildlife Trust - Portsdown Hill Walk

10:00am

Walk following on from the talk in 2019 to see the conservation work being done on the chalk downland overlooking the sea with a range of plants and wildlife.


Led by Richard Jones, local Countryside Officer. Meet at 10am in main viewpoint carpark, western end nearest the Churchillian pub. (SU661064) (Approx 2 hours walk)

Sat 13th Jun: Bishop's Waltham Carnival & Show

12:00pm onwards

Great day for all the family with our 'Children's Books' theme.

The day will start with the Carnival Procession from 11.30am in the High Street, then the Show takes place at Hoe Road Recreation Ground from 1pm to 5pm with a Food & Drink village, Live Music & Entertainment, Arena Show, Classic cars and bikes, children's entertainment, story tellers plus the ever popular Dog Show and over 50 stalls and lots more.


Help  make this year’s Carnival the best yet and join the Procession either as an Individual, Group or Organisation in this year’s Theme.


Come in fancy dress, make a creative mask, hat, decorated umbrellas, faces painted or even a theme decorated trolley, go cart, wheel barrow or bicycle or even make a Main Banner, individual banner or flags.


Meeting place on the day is Bishops Waltham Square from 11.30am.  Procession commences 12 noon, with the procession running through the High Street and to the Hoe Road Rec Ground.


Also a Bonus if you are in Fancy Dress in the Procession you get into the Show free.

Led by Ian Brownlee, Ranger with the Forestry Commission. Meet car park OS ref SU647113, Creech Woods, Denmead. at 9.15pm for brief talk and walk to the site.


Stout shoes and bring a torch and binoculars. Please advise of any mobility problems as there is a walk to the viewing site along an unmade track.

Sat 18th Jul: BW Gardening Club Show

The Bishop's Waltham Gardening Club Annual Show is a long established event in the community. Last year we welcomed entries in over 100 classes.  The classes include those for children as well as adults; novices and experienced growers; fruit and vegetables; cut flowers and plants; boxes, tubs, containers; photography, artwork and flower arranging; wine, preserves, cookery and many more!


It is great fun to enter and a good family time.


There are numerous prizes and trophies which have accumulated over the years and which are the subject of keen competition. Details of the trophies and prizes are printed in the Show Schedule together with a hints and tips section on how to prepare an entry. The Show Schedule is normally available from May each year.
